  • Home Learning Information Update - Wednesday 25th March 2020

    Wed 25 Mar 2020

    Home Learning Information

    Update Wednesday 25th March 2020

I know many of you are feeling anxious about ‘home schooling’ so we are writing to put your mind at rest. We are currently in the process of putting suggested learning activities on our class learning pages and this information was shared with you today. However, please read below before you start.

    1. First of all, please take the pressure off yourself. You are not home schooling but supporting your child/ren during this unexpected time.
    2. Please do not feel you have to recreate an entire school timetable. Many of you will need to work from home and have 2 or 3 children on top of that. Alongside, washing, cooking meals and getting out to the shops for food. Let them have a bit of control of their timetable. Learning is not done to them but with them! This will also make for a happier household.
    3. Don’t panic about what every other school and child are doing. Do what suits your family. A photograph on facebook is not the whole picture!
    4. Go easy on yourself. Spend time talking as a family. Family time is so important and we get less and less time together now in this new digital world. I encourage you to use this time to reconnect. Have a family quiz night? Create your own ‘Guess Who’ game!
    5. Remember right now, your child is a little confused about what is going on and tired as we are nearly at the end of term. They will need their Easter break soon and will then be more able to learn again afterwards.
    6. Careful with your conversations. Children pick up on things and will watch the news and want to know what is going on.
    7. If your child is a little more anxious than usual spend the time talking things over with them. They will test you as children often test new boundaries.
    8. If you do follow the suggested activities on our class pages, please mark work with your child and look for as many positives as possible. We use language such as ‘could you have another go at this one? Or now could you try this?’.
    9. Use this time as an opportunity to teach them things like tie their laces, set the table, make the bed, play a board game, do some gardening etc ..
    10. Finally, be kind to yourself and each other in this time of uncertainty. You are all fantastic ‘life’ teachers; you will support your child with their learning in more ways than you know.
    11. At Barming Primary School we cannot wait for the children to return and the school become a bustling hub of learning again. Remember this is just a stop gap!

We will see you all soon.

    Kind Regards

    The Barming Team J

    Fri 20 Mar 2020
    Dear Parents/Carers,

This is a brief note to clarify with all parents/carers that we are unable to provide Breakfast Club, After School Club or Easter Holiday Club, for the foreseeable future.   We are sorry for any disruption this will cause.

We will, however, be running the school day as normal 8:35am until 3:15pm for parents/carers who are keyworkers or have vulnerable children who absolutely have no other alternative.

Due to the fact we have closed down our wrap around care and Easter Holiday Club, we will be arranging credit notes for sessions that have been invoiced to you and that we can no longer fulfil.  If you have paid for these sessions, a refund will not be issued at this time due to administration difficulties.  The credit note will remain on your account and will be deductible from future bookings.   In exceptional circumstances, if your family is suffering financial hardship, we may be able to arrange a refund, please contact Mrs Brown at finance@orchardacademytrust.co.uk with details.

I appreciate your support and understanding at this time.

    Yours sincerely

  • Message from Mr Laker regarding Key Worker Status

    Fri 20 Mar 2020

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope this letter finds you well and that you are following the guidance around ‘social distancing’ from our Government, in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

We are all facing this difficult time together, including, making sense of all the information given, which is sometimes conflicting, such as guidance around schools being open or not.   It seems that the original message of schools closing was not entirely accurate as they are to try and remain open for Keyworkers.   The keyworkers list has now been released and is extensive.   The key message from the following document (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision) is:

If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading.

The government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.’

The staff at Barming Primary School will try to ensure we provide care for those parents/families that absolutely need it.   Therefore, please can I ask all parents that can provide care for their children outside of school, do so!   NB: there will be no breakfast club or after school club provisions during this time.

In order to be fully prepared, I am asking all parents that require a place at Barming Primary School during the Coronavirus outbreak to do the following:

    1. Log in to Parents Evening Booking System https://barming.parentseveningsystem.co.uk/
    2. Go to Events
    3. Go to Key Worker/Vulnerable Child Status
    4. Complete ONE form only, either Key Worker status or Vulnerable child status, parents/carers MUST enter their Key Worker Status and an Emergency Contact number in the 'Notes' section.   If you do not provide your keyworker status or an emergency contact number you will not be offered a place.  Please ensure that this is completed by 8.00pm this evening.  The booking system will automatically shut down at this time.

As a school – we will provide a service for our families, including during the Easter Break, for as long as physically possible.   However, it is my responsibility, alongside providing provision for those families who absolutely require it, to look after the welfare of all my staff.   While we have staff that are fit to work and not in self-isolation, we will continue to provide schooling.   Please support your school by only asking for a space if you absolutely require it, I cannot stress this enough.   This is a time where we all need to do our bit and support each other in whatever way we can.

Please only send your child(ren) into school as a last resort.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my parents and families safety during these worrying times ahead.   We will get through this together and if we follow the guidance strictly.   I look forward to seeing you all, once this is over.

Take care of each other and be kind.

      Yours sincerely

      Mr C. Laker
      Head of School
  • Please Bear With Us!

    Thu 19 Mar 2020

Thank you so much for working with us at this time. The Barming Team have been working tirelessly today to organise opening for Key Worker/Vulnerable children on Monday. Mr Laker has been incredibly busy (from a far) organising and preparing alongside Miss Rootes and the Trust. We still await the list to confirm Key Workers from Boris Johnson and will share this with you as soon as we have confirmation. Please keep checking your emails over the next day as we will be releasing a registration system for this on The Parents Evening Booking System. If you are confirmed as a Key Worker, you will be required to completed this form so we can ascertain accurate numbers in order to provide for the children.

The school will therefore be open on Monday for Key Workers/Vulnerable children but closed to all others.

We wish you well and hope you stay safe.
