Year 5 Trip - Tudor Workshop Leeds Castle

The Mayor of Maidstone Visit

We were really lucky to have a visit from the ‘Mayor of Maidstone’ today. He came into our assembly with Councillor Mrs Fay Gooch. He told us all about his job and what he does. Mrs Gooch then explained that our wonderful Barming Parish Council had organised for our children to have a special mug commemorating our new King Charles III's coronation. The Mayor finished by visiting our EYFS and Pre-School children who really liked his shiny gold chain!

We found out facts such as:

  • Maidstone has the oldest Mayor in the county – since 1549!
  • The Mayor has his very own security guard because his chain costs a lot of money!
  • The Mayor attends openings, parties, charity events and helps people celebrate their 100th birthdays.
  • Barming is mentioned in the Doomsday Book!

We had a really lovely afternoon and would like to thank the Mayor and Mrs Fay Gooch for their visit!

Year 2 Visit - How have schools changed?

This term Year 2 are learning about how schools have changed since the 1900s. They have been focusing on Barming Primary School and how it has changed. From looking at the old school building on South Street to what the children used to wear, Year 2 have really enjoyed learning about the differences and similarities. We were very lucky to have Mrs Bartlett come in and speak to the children as she attended Barming Primary school as a child. It was very interesting to hear how the school is different and some things which are very similar!

History Challenge Term 4

This term we would love the children to do some research and create a FACT PAGE!

This can be one page of historical information on the life of a significant individual.

Such as the people listed below.... but.... it can be any past significant individual.

• Christopher Columbus

• Mary Seacole

• Rosa Parks

• Emily Davison

• Queen Elizabeth

• King Charles

• Albert Einstein

• William Shakespeare

We would love to display these in school.  Please ensure they are all handed into the office by Thursday 21st March 9am. Thank you

 Geography Challenge for Term 1

How many street names can you find in Barming? You could go on a walk around the local area as a family, look at a map or explore Google Earth. Encourage your child to write a list of all the street names they can find (or write the street names for them), write your child's name & class name on the list and hand the list into the brown box in the school office before Friday 13th October. A winner will be announced before the end of half term and a prize will be awarded! Happy street name hunting!
