Term 4
In English, we will be using Kensuke's Kingdom to develop our English skills. We will start the term looking at blogs and recording our thoughts as Michael visiting different countries. We will then continue by writing a newspaper article based on events in the story. To finish the term we will use all of our writing skills to write an additional chapter for Kensuke's Kingdom. In Guided Reading, we will be exploring questions that may be asked in a test and considering how best to apply our skills. We will continue to read Goodnight Mister Tom (Russet Class) and Wolf Brother (Sunrise Class) as books for pleasure.
In Maths, we will begin by looking at long division - the use of partitioning and recombining for recalling their times tables will really help them. We will follow on by looking at the order of operations and applying this to problems. Ratio and proportion will follow this; this will include percentages and solving problems that use ratio. We will then explore multiplying and dividing fractions as well as area and perimeter and nets of shapes.
Our topic will be exploring where energy comes from. We will look at different forms of energy, how they are used and how this might change in the future. They will understand more about non-renewable energy sources and consider decisions made by the governments.
In Science we will be looking at Evolution and Inheritance. For this we will consider how characteristics are passed down through genetics. This will lead us on to look at how animals and plants survive better when adapted to their environment.
The RE topic this term is about racism and the role religion should play in tackling this issue. We will look at key figures and the impact they have had - both positive and negative. To conclude the topic we will be exploring our own visions for the future.
Music is exploring pitch, dynamics and texture with a focus on Fingal's Cave by Mendelssohn.
PSHE will conclude Our Changing Bodies and move on to Citizenship.
DT this term is exploring structures within a playground before moving on and building our own.
PE days will be Wednesday every week for Sunrise. In Week 1 Russet will have PE on a Tuesday and in Week 2 it will be on a Wednesday. The subjects will be OAA and Gymnastics.
