We will focus in particular on the Amazon Rainforest, the negative impact humans are having on the area and the action that can be taken to help.

Fantasy Stories, Poetry and Play scripts

This term we will continuing to look at fantasy worlds. We will be completing our stories based on the fantastic classic novel, ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. We will then be moving on to look at poetry. We will be learning about different aspects of figurative language like similes, metaphors and personification. We will study the poem, ‘The Dreadful Menace’ and all of the language techniques used. We will then go on to write our own descriptive poems. We will also be covering play scripts this term where we will write our own play scripts and perform them!

Maths - Multiplication and Division

In Maths we will be looking at multiplication and division. We will be continuing with learning our multiplication tables to 12 x 12 and making sure that we are really secure with our formal methods.  We will also be looking at 100 more and 100 less and 1000 more and 1000 less than a given number.  We will also be revisiting addition and subtraction and 2D shapes.

How you can help:

These areas could be reinforced by using different mathematical language that asks the children to use all four calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Also, referring to all the topics above in real life contexts that apply to the children.

Please practise times tables with your child. The link below is a very useful resource for practising times tables online:-
