Term 1

Term 1

Industrial Revolution

We are looking forward to beginning the new school year and getting to know the children in our classes.

In English, we will start with basing our writing a on the book Varmints by Helen Ward and will use this to inspire our writing looking at the settings, dialogues and characters in the story.  In guided reading, Sunrise will begin the year reading Wonder by RJ Palacio and Russet will begin reading Malamander by Thomas Taylor.

In Maths, we will be revisiting our place value knowledge for numbers up to 10 million including that of decimal numbers.  We will be practising times tables up to 12 x 12 along with corresponding division facts.  We will apply our tables knowledge to support learning around square and cube numbers and revisit associated vocabulary, for example, prime number, factor, multiples, composite numbers.

Our topic will be the industrial revolution focusing on how the Victorian society contributed to the changes that happened during this time. They will also explore how children were used during the Victorian period.

In Science we will be exploring electrical circuits and how they are created. All of the research will lead them to create their own circuit experimenting with different components.

PE days will be Wednesday every week for Sunrise. In Week 1 Russet will have PE on a Tuesday and in Week 2 it will be on a Wednesday.

If you have any questions during the term, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
