TOPIC TITLE: Were the Vikings raiders, traders of settlers.
This term we will be learning about the Vikings and their settlement in Britain. We will be looking at the key events that took place during the Viking era, the longboats that they liked to travel in and what Viking life was like in Britain. We will also be learning about the impact that the Vikings had on the lives of Anglo-Saxons and examine why trading was so important to the Vikings. The children will look at several different sources of information and make inferences to decide if the Vikings were raiders, traders or settlers.
English
This term we will be studying “How to train your Dragon” by Cressida Cowell
We will be looking at how Cressida Cowell uses language and in particular how she creates humour. We will be writing in her style to create our own dragons and using expanded noun phrases to describe them in our sentences. We will then be using a variety of instructional features to describe how to actually train a dragon!
Maths
In Maths we will be recovering place value, fractions and decimal numbers. We will be learning about measures, including converting between equivalent measures such as minutes to hours and metres to kilometres. We will also be covering position and direction looking in particular at translations of shapes.
