Term 2

Term 2

Local Fieldwork

Welcome back to Term 2.

In English, we will be using the book, "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs" to look at newspaper articles and persuasive writing. This will challenge the children to think about their formal language and consider how they can adapt their writing for different audiences. They will also then explore the Charles Dickens story, "A Christmas Carol" considering the different characters and their emotions. In Guided Reading, we will continue to use Malamander (Russet) and Wonder (Sunrise) as the basis for developing our reading skills.

In Maths, we will be developing our understanding of negative numbers, before moving on to fractions, where we will consider equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions and then ordering them. We will also consider the link between fractions, decimals and percentages. We will also look at further developing our geometry knowledge considering how to draw different shapes. We will finish the term with some work on statistics and measures.

Our topic will be local field work. With this we will think about why field work is carried out and the consider a question for us to investigate. We will then explore ways we can investigate our question before carrying out research and then presenting the results.

In Science we will be considering Animals including Humans, considering how the human body is constructed and what can impact on the human body. This will include a discussion about drugs and alcohol as well as considering how blood is made

PE days will be Wednesday every week for Sunrise. In Week 1 Russet will have PE on a Tuesday and in Week 2 it will be on a Wednesday.

If you have any questions during the term, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
