Term 4

Welcome back to Term 4!

This term, we will basing our writing on The Last Bear by Hannah Gold.  A beautiful and emotive book which Michael Morpurgo summarises as, 'Unforgettable!'   We will be covering a number of genres in our writing including including narratives with dialogue, setting descriptions using figurative language and diary entries to develop our understand on tenses.  We will continue to develop our understanding of basic sentences and associated punctuation and will begin to add further detail to our sentences by adding phrases or using conjunctions to extend our sentences or by using relative clauses.  We will also concentrate on varying our sentence openers to make it interesting for our reader.

In reading, we are looking forward to sharing extracts from different genres of text including poetry, folktales and the legend of Robin Hood in Michael Morpurgo's, 'Outlaw!'  We will look at language in Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman and will explore conventions of traditional folktales.

In maths this term, we will revise multiplying and dividing by different powers of ten and relate this to different problem solving tasks.  We will move onto learning about 2D and 3D shapes by exploring different nets for 3D shapes. We will also revisit fractions and convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa.
