Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3.

In English, we will be studying Shakespeare's Macbeth - the Scottish play for those who are superstitous. During this unit we will look at the different characters using empathy to consider their emotions and will also write newspaper articles as if we were witnesses to some of the events. We will be challenging the children to consider their vocabulary and sentence structure to ensure their writng would be interesting to their reader. In Guided Reading, Russet will be reading 'Goodnight Mister Tom' by Michelle Magorian; Sunrise will be reading 'Wolf Brother' by Michelle Paver.

In Maths, we will begin by looking at our place value. We will be considering how to round numbers of different sizes ad then apply this to problems. We will also explore Geometry considering how to use co-ordinates. This term will also see us developing our understanding of different measures before learning how to add and subtract fractions. We will end the term by looking at long multiplication and long division and then applying these to problems.

Our topic will be exploring the census and how this can give us different information about periods of time in history. We will follow a particular family and see how life may have changed for them. We will also have the opportunity to explore our local area and look at the local censuses.

In Science we will be looking at Living Things in Their Habitat. For this we will explore how animals and plants can be categorised and then use our scientific information to give advice.

PE days will be Wednesday every week for Sunrise. In Week 1 Russet will have PE on a Tuesday and in Week 2 it will be on a Wednesday.
