Barming Primary School is a 2 form entry primary school on the outskirts of Maidstone. It is a co-educational school for children aged 2 to 11 years old. There are currently 416 children on roll.

Out and About in the Local Area


Our topic this term is Out and About- a local study of Barming.


In Geography we will be learning to:


  • Use simple compass directions and locational and directional language to describe key features and routes on a map. 

  • Use aerial photographs and plan perspectives to recognise landmarks and basic human and physical features; devise a simple map; and use and construct basic symbols in a key.

  • Understand geographical similarities and differences through studying human and physical geography of a small area of the UK.

  • Use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of their school and its grounds and the key human and physical features of its surrounding environment.

  • Later on this term we will be going on a trip around Barming, where the children will be able to put lots of the skills that we have learnt into practise. 


In English we will be reading the text, “Into the Forest” by Anthony Browne.


In English we will be learning to:

  • Spell longer words using suffixes such as ment, ness, ful, less, ly
  • Spell common exception words
  • Plan and discuss the content of my writing
  • Use subordination (using when, if, that or because)
  • Use  expanded noun phrases to describe, expand and specify
  • Use co-ordination (using or, and or but)
  • Use apostrophes for the most common contracted words.



In Maths we will be learning to:

  • Find 10 more and ten less than any given number.
  • Recognise and use the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction and use this to check calculations and missing number problems.
  • Begin to solve balanced equations.
  • Recognise that division is the inverse of multiplication and use to check calculations.
  • Choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure: temperature (C); capacity (l/ml) to the nearest appropriate unit, using thermometers and measuring vessels.


Please continue to make use of Times Tables Rockstars, as a good knowledge of multiplication is needed throughout the Maths curriculum.



This term we will be learning about Plants. We will be learning to:

  • Describe how seeds and bulbs grow into plants.              
  • Describe what plants need in order to grow and stay healthy (water, light & suitable temperature).        
  • Observe closely, using simple equipment.          
  • Use our observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions.
