Term 5 Where shall we live? Settlements and Trade

Term 5

2021/2022

Topic Title: Whether the weather affect our life

This term we are returning to Geography, finding out how weather affects where we live. We will be looking at how the land around us affects the weather and so affects where settlements occur, whilst comparing Maidstone with the Orkney Islands!

English

We will be starting by sharing ‘The Rascally Cake’, a wonderful book by Jeanne Willis, before producing instructions using imperative verbs, as we create our own revolting recipes. ‘The Mousehole Cat’ by Antonia Barber is our other book this term, which we will use to produce our own fish poems and create our own stories from the viewpoint of Mowzer the cat.

Maths

In Maths, we will begin by thinking about place value, placing numbers in order, before moving onto fractions, where we will be working on equivalent fractions, placing fractions in order and then adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator. We will then move onto shape, thinking about angles and turns, perpendicular and parallel lines, before relating this new language to describe 2D and 3D shapes.

P.E

Children have P.E on a Wednesday and will need to come in dressed in P.E kit.
