Term 2 Villages, Towns and Cities

Term 2

Topic Title: Way, Way back / The Stone Age

This term we are focusing on History and after finding out where the Stone Age fits on a Timeline, will be finding out about homes were like and how the people lived at that time. We shall also discover why the Stone Age moved into the Bronze Age and look particularly at Skara Brae. This work will be enhanced by our school trip.

This term we are starting with Pebble in my Pocket by Meredith Hooper, which asks, where does a pebble come from? From this book we will begin by explain how a volcano erupts and then write our own version of how a pebble comes to be in our pocket. We will then move onto Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura, which describes a boy from now going back in time to the Stone Age and his meeting with a girl called Om and her family.

Handwriting, apostrophes for possession and contraction and spelling of common exception words will also be a focus.

We will begin by going back to addition and subtraction, moving onto adding and subtraction two and three digit numbers using the column method. After that, we will work on multiplication and division, with a focus on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. Please remember to continue to use Times Tables Rock Stars at home to practise the times tables. There are also games on Purple Mash that can help consolidate these tables.

PE:Tuesday for both classes.

Please could you ensure that your child is wearing their PE kit in school that is appropriate for the weather on that day.

Please ensure long hair is always tied back.

If your child has their ears pierced, they need to be able to remove these by themselves or leave them out on PE days.
