Term 1 The Great Fire of London

Term 1

Topic Title: The Great Fire of London

History

During our topic of The Great Fire of London we will be exploring the following key questions:

How do we keep safe around a fire?

What were the problems with London in 1666?

What happened in September 1666 and how do we know?

What did eyewitnesses say about the fire?

What are the causes and consequences?

Why did the fire spread so easily?

We will also get to use our 'Now Press Play' Resource linked to The Great Fire of London.

Science

The children will be learning about living things and their habitats. Some key learning that we will cover is:

• explore and compare the differences between things that are living, dead, and things that have never been alive
•  identify that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of different kinds of animals and plants, and how they depend on each other
•  identify and name a variety of plants and animals in their habitats, including micro-habitats
•  describe how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals, using the idea of a simple food chain, and identify and name different sources of food.

Within Maths, we are going to be focussing on place value. We will be looking at number bonds to 10 and 20 and which related facts we can find and any patterns we can spot. Here are some games we like to play...

https://www.mathplayground.com/number_bonds_20.html    and     https://www.ictgames.com/saveTheWhale/index.html

We will be using the > more than, < less than and = equal to signs to compare numbers.

We will also be looking at numbers and ensuring we have a good understanding of its value. How many tens does this number have? How many ones does this number have?
