TOPIC TITLE: Rivers in the UK
We are thinking about Geography this term, as we learn about rivers in the UK. This will involve locating rivers in an atlas, understanding the importance of rivers and finding out more about the River Medway. We will also look at the water cycle.
We will be starting the term with 'The Barnabus Project' by the Fan Brothers, before we create our very own animals. We will then describe them using nouns and adjectives ending with writing a set of instructions on how to care for the animal. We will then move on to ‘Tuesday’ by David Weisner (a book about flying frogs), looking in great detail at the pictures to fully understand the story and to give us great words, which we can then use in our own stories. Finally, we will then move onto ‘The Rhythm of the Rain’, which we will use to help us to understand and write about the water cycle. Handwriting and spelling of common exception words will also remain a focus.
We will begin by exploring what each digit in a 2 and 3-digit number is worth, whilst counting on and back in 10s and 100s. Addition and subtraction will then be our focus for the remainder of the term.
Please remember to continue to use Times Tables Rock Stars at home to practise the times tables.
Our theme this term is light, exploring what we mean by light, investigating how and why we get shadows and how and why they move and change.
After learning how to log onto the computers, we will move onto learning to touch type.
The focus this term is Islam, as we think about if praying regularly through the day helps Muslims in their everyday lives.
This term we are sketching, exploring tone and textures in pictures and then using that knowledge to create our own pictures.
We will be learning to sing in time with our class so we can sing in rounds.
We will be developing football and fitness skills this term.
PSHE/SMSC: We will be developing our ability to recognise the needs of all members of a community, before creating a park where they will all be happy. We will then acknowledge what makes our peers special.
How you can support your child's learning home:
Listen to them read for 15 minutes per day - ask them questions about what they have just read.
Read and spell the Year 1 and 2 keywords, and if they are confident in them, move onto the Year 3 and 4 keywords.
Read and write numbers (no reversals) to 1,000.
Count on and back in 10s to 100 and 100s to 1,000.
Important things to remember:
PE:- Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday. PASS will be coming in on Wednesday this term to help with our learning.
Please could you ensure the your child is wearing the correct PE kit all day on both days.
The PE kit should comprise of black or blue shorts or tracksuit pants, the correct house colour t-shirt and trainers. Please ensure there are no pictures or logos all t-shirts must be plain. If your child has long hair, this should be tied back as per a normal school day. Ear piercings - if your child has earrings, they MUST be removed before coming to school, if they cannot take them out by themselves. If they come in to school and cannot remove them, they will not be able to take part in PE that day.
