Outdoor Learning

Outdoor learning is an important aspect of our work at Barming. We believe that children learn a great deal from being outdoors and engaging in 'hands on' activities. Children need to spend more time outdoors! Our outdoor learning takes place in the following ways:

  • Regular opportunities for the children to use the school grounds and the wider environment as part of their curriculum learning;
  • Forest School in Year R and Year One
  • Growing areas for all classes;
  • Outdoor Learning Week each year;
  • A range of after school clubs, including gardening club;
  • Promoting and signposting outdoor activities to parents.

Here are some examples of what we do....

David Bond is the writer and producer of the Film 'Project Wild Thing'. After watching the film, five children from Year 5 were given the opportunity to interview David. The school has signed up to The Wild Network to show that we agree with the issues raised in the film. We have a copy of the film to loan to any interested parents. Visit the Project Wild Thing website for more details.
